About us

Landon’s Greenhouse and Nursery was founded in 1979 by Jack and Kathy Landon on 4 acres northeast of Bighorn, Wyoming.  Their first greenhouse, which was salvaged from a fire, is still in active use.

For 19 years, Jack and Kathy built a reputation for growing quality plants.  When they sold the business in 1997—to Wayne Gray, his sister, Janelle Gray, and Janelle’s husband, Phil Gilmore—the new owners vowed to continue this tradition of excellence.

In 2000, the three partners built a Garden Center closer to town, at 505 College Meadows Drive.  The old location—56 Landon Lane—now houses 7 greenhouses and is used as a growing facility.  The new Garden Center boasts two gutter-connected greenhouses with a retail store, a large nursery and perennial yard, and two more hoop houses “out back” for holding perennials and popular annuals.

Landon’s Greenhouse is the only growing facility in Sheridan, Wyoming.  We still grow many annuals, vegetables and perennials from seed, and we start even more from plugs and cuttings.

Landon's also has a full-service Landscape department, doing anything from planting a tree to landscape design to pond and landscape installation.

The staff at Landon’s are the heart of the organization.  Let us introduce a few of them . . .

Janelle Gray

Owner
Janelle is a moving target in spring, going between both locations many times per day to make sure that you have a good selection of annuals and vegetables to choose from.

Wayne Gray

Owner
Wayne is responsible for selecting all of the Trees, Shrubs, Vines and Roses.  He’s very careful to pick only things that will survive in our climate.

Phil Gilmore

Owner
Phil does our Landscape Designs.  He’s responsible for some pretty spiffy ponds and landscapes around the area.

Jessica Mommsen

Store Manager
Jessica shops the world for the newest, most exciting, innovative and functional products for your home and garden.  She and her crew are responsible for the great displays that make the store different and inviting.  And they're the friendly faces you'll see each time you visit.

Sean Pfister

Landscape Manager
“You’re Fired.”
Sean is the Donald Trump of Sheridan, constantly firing his long-suffering crew.  Thankfully, nobody listens, and the guys have a great time while getting a tremendous amount of work done.  When you see the yellow Landon’s hats coming, you know your landscape is about to improve!

Mike Morris

Production Manager
Mike is responsible for a big staff and for growing those beautiful flowers, healthy vegetables and lush houseplants you’ve come to expect from Landon’s.

Karen Nicolarsen

Perennial Manager
“Greetings” is Karen’s typical hello, and a sign that you’re about to get some of the best customer service in the industry.  Karen selects perennials that will survive our winters, and she’s got lots of great advice based on her years of gardening experience.

Elwyn Maloy

Maintenance and Production of Amazing Things
Elwyn can repair or build anything:  the metal frame for the huge stained glass flower on our store front, the rock pillars on the porch, some of our carts, our display shelves and counters and much, much more.  We are amazed!

Kati Evers & D’Ann Naugle

Assistant Store Managers
Kati has been assisting Jessica in shopping and running the store for the past 2 years.  D'Ann is stepping in as Kati prepares to welcome her first child.   They are both enormously talented and we're glad to have the two of them on board this year!

Karla Warder

Nursery and Jill Of All Trades
Karla does it all:  installs conduit, lays gravel, moves pottery, drives tractor, pots trees, mows, weeds, sells trees, designs gardens.  She is responsible for the inviting lay-out of the Trees and Shrubs, and can answer most any question about woody plants.

Judy Spiekermeier

Seeder
If Judy can’t get it to germinate, nobody can!  Judy owned her own Greenhouse in North Dakota for 29 years.  Now she sows all of the plants that we grow from seed.  We’re so lucky to benefit from her experience and skill.

ELAINE INMAN

Waterer
It's a real art to water correctly, especially when the Greenhouse is filled with so many different plants.  Elaine is our year-round waterer, and we think you'll agree she's keeping everything looking mighty fine!

Katie Gray

Dog
Katie is a miniature schnauzer and the official greeter at Landon’s Greenhouse.  At her job for 6 years, she’s the well-behaved one!

Tinkerbell Gilmore

Dog
Tink (or “Stink”) is also a miniature schnauzer, a member of the Landscape crew (responsible for playing with customer’s dogs), and an occasional greeter at Landon’s Greenhouse.  She’s the one who jumps up on you (we're working on that . . . )!
